Last Friday evening I attended Riverside Church's 6th annual Party With A Purpose. The purpose was to collect new, unwrapped, nonviolent toys and also to raise money for tsumani relief. Melvin Miller's New Social Justice Step Dancers graced us with a rousing performance during the evening. I've been experimenting with Rebbie's manual settings, even in low-light, high-speed environments like that one. As I've gotten more comfortable using her in full manual mode (with auto-focus to capture the action), I have preferred to use that over the camera's Sports mode. In manual mode, I can choose how underexposed or blurry the shots will be by changing the aperture setting and shutter speed. This shot was taken at ISO 1600, f/4, 1/60. I lightened the midtones, blurred, then sharpened to regain some of the detail lost from the graininess of the ISO setting and the underexposure. For an action shot with a relatively slow lens, I'm pleased. |
