An Easter Sunday trip to Madison Square Garden to see the circus turned into a joyous trip down memory lane for me. It was a time to bond with my family and get more experience with my 50mm lens. I wanted to see how well I could do without zooming in or out, and I am quite pleased with the results. There are more photos in my Flickr portfolio.
Of course the show is different now than it was when I was a child. There are screens at the top of the arena to add to the special effects. There is a little more audience participation than I remember. The arena is smaller than it was when I was 10. (Leave me with my illusions, thank you.) Gunther Gebel-Williams is not putting the the big cats through their paces. But the magic of the trapeze still makes me gasp. The big cats still fascinate me. The elephants still amuse me, and they are still followed by people with brooms and shovels. :-) The band is still great. I thoroughly enjoyed returning to my childhood for a couple of hours this afternoon. May all your days be circus days! |
